Human Hair

Human hair hairpieces look natural and feel natural, and offer endless styling options. It is important to provide proper care for human hair to keep it looking its best.

  • Human hair is not ready to wear out of the box. Wash, rinse and style before wearing.
  • Take special care with lace front hairpieces. The lace is delicate and should not be tugged or pulled.
  • We do not recommend sleeping, showering, or swimming while wearing.
  • Any cutting or chemical processes, such as perming or coloring, should be done by a professional hair stylist. We do not recommend lifting or bleaching human hair. No returns or exchanges will be allowed for worn or altered products.
  • For professionals only: You can add a darker root or custom color our 100% human hair products by depositing color (do not lift – do not bleach). Our human hair products are available in pre-dyed colors as well as single color Level Shades, for example 3HH, 4HH, 5HH, 6HH, 7HH, 9HH, and 10HH. You can deposit color only on the Level Shades – except for our 1HH since it has already been dyed. We do not recommend lightening since the hair has already been processed to bring it up to its color. For custom coloring, most stylists begin with the lightest color level available.

Gently remove tangles using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. (Do not use a brush.) Start at the ends and slowly work toward the base to avoid damage. Do not overstretch or pull on the hair.

Caution: Do not soak or submerge human hair hairpieces. Do not use hot water to rinse or wash as this will damage the base.

  1. Rinse by holding the hairpiece under cool running water. Allow the water to run from roots to ends.
  2. Place a small amount of shampoo for color-treated hair in your hand. Work it evenly through the hair in a gentle, downwards motion from the roots to the ends.
  3. Rinse under cool running water until the water runs clear. Gently squeeze to press out excess water. Do not twist or wring.
  1. Place a small amount of conditioner for color-treated hair in your hand. Work it evenly through the ends only in a gentle, downwards motion. Caution: Do not apply conditioner directly to base or root areas as this may loosen the knots and cause shedding.
  2. Leave conditioner on for 1-2 minutes or follow the conditioner manufacturer’s instructions. Caution: Leaving conditioner on longer than 3-5 minutes can damage the wig or hairpiece.
  3. Rinse by holding under cool, running water until the water runs clear. Gently squeeze or use a clean, dry towel to press out excess water. Do not twist or wring.
  4. The damp hairpiece can then be clipped on a hanger to dry, however hand-tied hairpieces should instead dry flat on a colorfast towel to prevent any damage to the delicate construction.
  • HairUWear offers a variety of styling brushes and combs specially designed for hairpieces.
  • Make sure hair is completely dry before using curling or flat irons. Blow dryers, curling irons and other thermal tools may be used on low settings. Remember, the hair may scorch if the setting is too high.
  • To straighten: take a 1-inch section and run a flat iron from the base to the ends. Allow to cool.
  • To curl: wrap a 1-inch section around a curling iron, hold for 10 seconds and release. Steam rollers or wet setting are the safest way to curl human hair.
  • If desired, styling products may be used.
  • After each wearing, gently comb through the hairpiece using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.
  • To avoid unwanted kinks or crimps, clip hairpiece on a hanger.
  • To detangle and recondition between washings: spray with a leave-in conditioner, then comb through with a wide-tooth comb starting at the ends.
