General

Find your wig cap size by measuring the circumference around the hairline. Custom wigs require ear to ear and front to back measurements as well. HairUWear offers Petite, Petite Average, Average, Average Large and Large cap size wigs. Watch a tutorial here.

Prepare longer hair for wearing a wig by securing with bobby pins in a smooth wrap pattern that lies close to the head. Watch a video on hair wrapping here.

To put on a wig, start by giving it a gentle shake. The tags are located at the nape of the wig. Position the front of the wig against your forehead and pull the wig back and over your head. Tighten or loosen the straps if needed. Watch a tutorial on putting on a wig here.

One factor to consider when choosing a wig color is your skin tone and undertones. A good rule of thumb is to choose shades that are similar to your natural hair color, staying within two shades lighter or darker. But at the end of the day, feel free to spice it up!

When choosing a wig, you’ll consider cap construction, special features like lace fronts and monofilament areas, human hair or synthetic fiber, as well as length, cut, texture, and color. What to consider when choosing a wig.

Determining the shape of your face can provide style suggestions when choosing a new wig. Find your face shape.

Styling & Care

Some wig styles are packed inside out to preserve the styling. When you first receive your new wig, be sure to read all the instructions included in the box, on the hang tag and the labels inside the wig. What to keep in mind when unpacking a wig.

Some wigs include a Protective Liner to provide an additional layer of hygienic protection. What is a protective liner? Try the wig on with the Protective Liner in place. Since the liner does not stretch, the fit may feel snug and/or the wig may not sit properly. Do not judge the fit with the Protective Liner in place. If you love your new wig and have decided to keep it, now is the time to remove the Protective Liner. Remove the Protective Liner by carefully snipping the threads that attach it to the wig cap. A small pair of scissors or a seam ripper work best. Work slowly and take care not to pull, tear or cut the wig cap. The wig may not be returned for refund or exchanged if either the liner or hangtag is removed.

Use care when washing your synthetic wig by following these easy steps for gentle detangling, cleansing, rinsing and drying. Steps for gentle detangling, cleansing, rinsing and drying of synthetic wigs. In addition, please review the Care Instructions provided with your Raquel Welch, Gabor, Hairdo or HIM wig style.

To smooth heat-friendly Tru2Life or Excelle fiber: wash, condition and spray with Restore Leave-in Conditioner by HairUWear, then blow dry using low-medium heat. Fiber will be damaged if the heat setting is too high. We do not recommend curling, blow drying or straightening the hair while wearing; heat-friendly synthetic fiber will get very hot and may cause burns. How to maintain heat-friendly fiber.

Extensions can make all the difference in how you feel about your hair. However, how you apply them can make or break a look. Watch a tutorial on attaching clip-in extensions here. Halo extensions, like Hairdo’s 20″ Human Hair Invisible Extension or 20″ Invisible Extension, are another great option to change up your look. Watch a how-to on how to seamlessly blend a halo extensions here.

Cap Construction

A lace front is a wig feature designed to resemble a natural hairline. A lace front includes individually attached hairs that generally extends only across the forehead, although some styles have an extended temple-to-temple lace front. These individually attached hairs give the effect that the hair is growing directly out of the scalp. While a lace front only extends across the forehead and an inch or two behind the hairline, a monofilament feature can give the same look along the hair part.

See lace front styles.

A wig with a monofilament feature has a thin layer of sheer mesh at either the part, crown, or top. Similar to a lace front, a monofilament feature adds to the natural look of a wig. Monofilament imitates a natural hair part, top, or crown and gives the appearance of hair growing directly from the scalp. Another benefit of monofilament is how lightweight and breathable to material is. This is especially important for those with scalp sensitivity.

See monofilament styles.

Hand-tied indicates that an element of the wig has hair that was individually tied by hand. This results in a wig that is realistic, soft, and flexible.

See hand-tied styles.

Memory caps are thinner, stretchier, and more secure than other types of wig caps. This type of cap forms to the head to ensure a better fit.
